Living in the US I had to wait HOURS to see the opening ceremonies for the Olympics.  My friends in Europe were already chatting about it but I waited patiently until it was our turn on the east coast. Plus some of my friends shared clips with me afterwards of the things we missed in the US due to the network’s poor editing.

  • I loved the opening ceremony.  All the references to literature. Kenneth Branagh, oops let me wipe up that bit of drool. Voldemort. Got a bit confused about the NHS, because it was never something I would have celebrated at an event such as this.  A friend reminded me that the NHS is a major part of British life, which I did know.
  • The little girl from Ireland’s youth choir who wore pink shoes – I love you for the spunkiness – while everyone else was wearing black made me giggle.
  • I want a pair of the Czech Republics rainboots, I thought they were cool. Maybe not for wearing during an Olympic Parade of Nations, but they were still cool.
  • I was a bit saddened by Team USA’s outfits, they looked outdated and frumpy.  Not to mention the fact that I would NEVER have associated a beret with the USA.  Cowboy hat yes, Baseball hat yes, but NO to the Beret.
  • As many of my friends know I truly found the men’s diving fascinating  for all the wrong reasons.  Well and men’s water polo. I watched a lot of both.
  • I really wanted to rip the heads off the commentators, they just need to stop talking.  Mute works great on my TV.
  • The fact that Network affiliate stations kept giving away spoilers.  It wasn’t fair that they could see the games live while we had to wait, well really I didn’t care about the waiting, it was the fact that they would give us the results before we had seen it.
  • China seems to dominate more and more events at the Olympics, but they haven’t broken into Rowing yet.  Maybe next time.
  • I watched archery, I grew up in a family that actually hunted with bows, but I couldn’t help myself and I kept giggling wondering if Catniss from Hunger Games was going to show up. I also wondered if the huge popularity of The Hunger Games series was why the network even aired the event.
  • The Badminton Drama.
  • I loved the rings on the Tower Bridge and I wondered how many others realized it wasn’t the London Bridge.

I made this part 1, the Olympics are a week old and if I waited any longer I would forget everything.
